Andrew Hunt’s Story

In August 2012 Andrew Hunt sustained significant injuries in a dirt bike accident. Several days after his release from hospital he suffered a stroke brought on by his injuries, leaving him unable to work. Andrew’s wife Lisa is now his fulltime carer and has taken indefinite unpaid leave from her position at the NSW Department of Education.Fundraising efforts have been driven by the Kurri Mongrels, a group of men sharing a common love of cycling. The group started about five years ago as an informal weekly gathering of mountain bikers riding the trails around Maitland and Cessnock and has grown into a well-organised club that has incorporated fundraising into its charter.
Andrew was an active member of the club and was very energetic, always up for a ride, be it on his motorbike or mountain bike. His accident occurred while he was enjoying a week off between finishing his mature-age apprenticeship and starting a great new job, so he had absolutely no insurance coverage or income protection of any sort.
Valley Homes were one of the first companies to pledge their support, donating $5,000 at a fundraising event.
All staff at Valley Homes were very moved by Andrew’s story. Valley Homes has also recently helped Andrew and Lisa complete some necessary modifications to their home.
Tom Biviano’s Story

In October 2009 Tom Biviano was the victim of an assault while trying to break up a fight during a night out in Maitland. Tom was an innocent bystander when his life changed forever. He suffered life-threatening injuries and as a result has been unable to work or care for himself since. Prior to his accident Tom ran a successful sub-contracting business and regularly worked for Valley Homes. Valley Homes has been actively involved in improving Tom’s quality of life since this tragic event and, with many local suppliers, built Tom an adaptable living, purpose-built home.
